Students in Twilight town suspended for wearing Sex Pistols T-shirts

Anarchy in the USA: Nine students were suspended from a Washington State high school after wearing t-shirts

Students in the real-life setting of the Twilight novels were suspended from school after wearing Sex Pistols t-shirts.
Nine pupils staged a protests in front of their school in Forks, Washington - the setting for The Twilight Saga - after the punishment this week, having leapt to the support of a fellow classmate.
Devon Chastain, who was student body president in 2009, had been sent home from school on Monday for wearing her own t-shirt, sparking a wave of support from other students.
Teens distributed t-shirts bearing the logo of the influential punk band in protest at Chastain's suspension, which only occurred because she had defended another student.
Chastain said a friend of hers was wearing the Sex Pistols shirt  on Monday and was instructed to change.
When she did, Chastain put the punk band shirt on and refused to remove it, she confirmed.
'I'm suspended for three days for making a peaceful protest,' Chastain said.
'Sex Pistols is not a sexual innuendo. It is a homage to an important band.'
Pupil Alvina Carter commented: 'It is the name of a band - people wear Bob Marley and Lil' Wayne shirts - I don't know why we can't wear Sex Pistols shirts.'
School officials said the student handbook prohibits students from wearing clothing with sexual connotations and claimed the distribution of Sex Pistols t-shirts had caused an uproar at Forks High School.
'Because of the nature of what was on the shirts and the way in which they were distributed and how that was causing a disruption - that is when the administration took action,' school Superintendent Diana Reaume said.
'The actions of the administration was responding more to the disruption than to what was written on the t-shirts.'

The suspensions occured in the small Washington town of Forks, the setting for Stephenie Meyer's hit Twilight novels which were adapted into films starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
The town has seen tourist numbers jump by 600 per cent since the books were first published.
